McLean County Democrats have had a record year of activity in 2003 . . .
- Monthly Meetings - McLean County Democrats meetings are usually held every third Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the old union laborers' hall, 2012 Fox Creek Rd. (Behind CJ.'s Restaurant). There are usually 75 or more people in attendance, and all Democrats are welcome.
- Parades - A Democratic float was in parades on Memorial Day, the 4th of July in Chenoa, Lexington Taste of Country, ISU Homecoming and the B/N Christmas parade. Democrats had fun riding and walking with entries.
- Outreach - Coffees/breakfasts were at Dawson Lake, Lexington, and Hudson for Democrats to mix and mingle.
- Funds - The annual Baldini Scholarship was awarded in the amount of $1200. Funds will also be distributed to local candidates for the 2004 election upon presentation and approval of their budgets.
- The Roosevelt Dinner - More than 100 people attended the annual dinner in January, 2003. The Outstanding Roosevelt Democrat award was presented to Francis Irvin. The 2004 dinner will be held Jan. 31. Read more about it on the events page.
- St. Patrick's Day - We celebrated with a corned beef and cabbage dinner attended by 75 people.
- Annual Fundraiser - The August dinner was attended by 280 Democrats at the Holiday Inn. Keynote speaker was Illinois AFL-CIO President Margaret Blackshere. For information on the June, 2004 event, ca11 664-5789.
- Fall Wiener Roast - Jim Larkin hosted a bonfire and wiener roast at his farm in October. Fireside chat was hot!
- Illinois State University Young Democrats - For a fundraiser, this group served dinner at the Labor History Play and Union/Democrat meeting celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Laborers' Union.
- Christmas at the Mansion - Fifty members of the Century Club went to the Governor's Mansion on Dec. 6 where they enjoyed an evening of music, hors d' oeurves, dinner, and fun. The entire public area of the mansion was open to guests, and there were governor's aides available to answer questions.
