"I have no use for tolerance.
I consider it only slightly less insulting than intolerance.
Give me justice."

- - Dr. John A. Moore
(1871-1946)

Justice is what Democrats should seek for all humankind. But, our pursuit has, admittedly, been inconstant, and our results, so far, imperfect. The dedicated core has always been there, and we have certainly always been – and we remain today - the far more diverse political organization. However, our very diversity has sometimes created practical, political difficulties in maintaining a successful, electoral coalition. It’s always been easier for the party with fewer principles, which is why the Nixonian “Southern strategy” has succeeded in coloring the entire southeastern quadrant of the electoral map the same, crimson color that Republicans’ cheeks should be on account of their use of cynical, "wedge" political tactics.

In our society, each individual is a "minority", and, as such, vulnerable to unjust discrimination. No one of us can be confident that our turn to be victimized will never come, nor that the group(s) to which we belong are so numerous and influential as to be immune from assault. To know this is to know why hateful words and hurtful actions, unjust customs and discriminatory conditions can never be allowed to pass or to rest unchallenged. Democrats do recognize that past injustices have conferred continuing advantaged status on some in our society. Responsibility for those injustices is not inheritable, but the reality of the advantages and disadvantages enjoyed and suffered cannot be ignored and must be rebalanced. We do not recognize as “winners” those who start their races three-quarters of the way to the finish line.

As Democrats, we judge no person’s sincere beliefs, but neither the nation, the state, nor any subdivision of either, nor any private institution which derives any benefit from government can permit those beliefs to import any injustice into custom, commerce or public policy.

Engineered panic cannot yet again be made the pretext for any erosion of Americans’ civil liberties. We must defend our Constitutional ground ..... there is nowhere else to stand.

For "us" Democrats, the only legitimate "them" are ...... Republicans.
